Bianca Bags Bronze

Great news for European Champion Bianca Walkden who was back in the action at the Austrian Open in May, less than a month after her triumph in Baku.

Walkden took bronze in the +73kg category after initially defeating Lauren Hamon (USA) 7-4, before going down to Katharina Weiss (Germany) 5-3 in the semi final.

That’s not to say Bianca will be getting a well-earned rest, as she will return to action in June at the Swiss Open, accompanied by a strong British team including London 2012 gold medalist, Jade Jones.

British athlete Henry Cookey also secured a bronze medal in the +87kg category and Nithin Fransis of Gurumu Taekwondo took home silver, whilst Cadet European Championship teammate Holly Wray Hankin of TKD Academy Liverpool took bronze at -37kg.

Additional medals also were awarded to:

  • Ilyas Hussain (Cadet -33kg)
  • Shayanne Sarsoza (Cadet -29kg)
  • Aaron Bretland (Junior -51kg)
  • Archie Waldock (Junior -51kg)
  • Junior World Championships bronze medallist, Leah Moorby (Junior -59kg)
