Breaking the lap record round BBC Top Gear’s test track at Dunsfold, Surrey has become a preoccupation of supercar manufacturers the world over. However, far from being a heavily-funded global producer, the latest contender was the diminutive UK-based Briggs Automotive Company (BAC), whose innovative 285bhp Mono recently circulated in just 1 minute 14.3 seconds, thereby bettering the times of all but the 720bhp Pagani Huayra. Broadcast on July 7, the Mono’s remarkable achievement is not only a tribute to BAC but also to our Kumho tyres too that are standard fit on all new Monos.
The chosen pattern is a version of our popular street-legal V70A competition tyre especially developed for the BAC, which rides on 205/40 R17s at the front and 245/40 R17s on the rear.
Said Kumho UK’s Marketing Director John Thrupp: “Having been involved in the Mono project from day one, we are obviously delighted at its phenomenal success since being unveiled to an awestruck public in 2011. Such accolades as ‘Stig’s Car of the Year’ (Top Gear Magazine) and ‘Track Day Car of the Year’ (Autocar and GQ Magazine) preceded this positively mighty Top Gear lap − arguably the supercar’s most impressive achievement to date. “Mono’s ground-breaking design and high-quality of manufacture set it apart from its rivals and we are not surprised to learn that it is selling sufficiently well around the world to require a move to new, larger premises in Liverpool. We wish BAC all the best with that and look forward to continuing as sole tyre supplier for this uniquely British product.”
