Twin Busch has been the front running privateer team in Germany’s Nürgburgring-based VLN Championship for some years now, even winning one round outright in 2013. The squad’s history in the ‘Green Hell’s’gruelling 24 Hour race is also mighty impressive and they last year finished 10th overall behind nine works outfits. They plan to eclipse that result in this weekend’s event (May 16/17) and have been working hard with their long-standing tyre supplier Kumho to achieve that aim. On this occasion the twins, Dennis and Marc Busch, will be sharing their Audi R8 LMS Ultra with Dutch driver Christiaan Frankenhout. And, such is their determination to succeed, that they decided to forego the second round of the VLN Championship in order to carry out a major tyre test with the assistance of Kumho’s motorsport department. The results were very encouraging and in the team’s own words: “The production machines are now running at full speed in the Far East, so we can have Kumho’s ‘Black Gold’ in sufficient quantity. Furthermore, Christiaan is an experienced Nordschleife driver with plenty GT3 experience, so we are particularly well positioned for this year’s event.”
Added Kumho’s European Motorsport Manager Manfred Theisen: “Kumho is also looking forward to this latest endurance test for man and machine. Our specially-developed tyres mean we are fully prepared for the task in hand and we are very much hoping for a good result.”
